This song is based on a true story, of a girl named Yaoya Oshichi. In 1682, her family home burned down, and until it was rebuilt, her family stayed at a local temple. There, she fell in love with one of the boys who worked there. Her family home was eventually rebuilt, and her family moved back.
Oshichi was very much in love with the boy and wanted to see him again, so she tried to set her home on fire. She was caught, and burned at the stake. She was only 16. It is said that the magistrate, who knew she was 16 years old, was reluctant to have to burn her, and tried to give her a way out, saying “You are surely only 15, correct?” As children 15 and under were not allowed to be sentenced to death; however Oshichi answered truthfully, and said that no, she was 16. It is said that when she was burned, there were many cherry blossom trees around, and this song plays off of that notion. The song chorus begins with her ghost waiting at the cherry blossom trees where she died, waiting for the one she loved to come. She died in 1683, at age 16.
The dancer, Taichi Saotome is a very talented male dancer, he does many other dances of geisha and samurai parts.
Japonais :

Anglais (traduction) :
The red strap of my sandal snapped
There is no one able to reattach it for me
I kick it across the moat and,
I start to run, blood coursing into my fingers.
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees
Someone who doesn’t come even if you wait for them
Is the same as a dead person…
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees with flowers blowing like snow
Burned, and covered in flowers whiter than my burnt skin,
I am Oshichi, watching the cherry blossoms at night
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees into the March sky
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees with flowers blowing like snow
While putting on lipstick, I put a tissue to my mouth
A tear drops… and another
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees to the limits of my vision
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees with flowers blowing like snow
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees, good bye my dear…
Cherry Trees, Cherry trees with flowers blowing like snow
